Veeco

Senior Applications Engineer, Oregon

Veeco designs, manufactures and markets thin-film process equipment that enables high-tech electronic device production and development all over the world.

The Challenge

We have been working with Veeco for over five years now. During this time we have made a number of hires – both in Europe and the US. Due to business growth, Veeco were seeking to hire a Senior Product Applications Engineer who would work directly with one of their customers on developing new applications for a specific toolset. This recruitment project was the most challenging one due to the fact that as well as having specific industry experience, the candidate was required to have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to liaise effectively with the manufacturing team, Field Service Engineers based at a customer site as well as the customer itself.

The Approach

We used our broad market knowledge and extensive US-based network to identify relevant candidates to approach.

The Numbers

We approached over three hundred and ten potential candidates, four candidates were interviewed. Two  candidates were taken through to the final stage. The offer was extended to one of the candidates following a number of video calls and a face-to-face meeting with the hiring manager and members of the BU Senior Leadership team.

The Outcome

The chosen candidate had a strong technical background and ten+ years’ of hands-on engineering experience, including five+ years’ experience as a Process Engineer in the semiconductor industry. Throughout the interview process, the candidate displayed a clear motivation to join the Company and take on the Senior Product Applications Engineer position. It was a combination of this candidate’s technical skills, aptitude and positive, ‘can-do’ attitude that made them successful in the interview process and warranted the offer of employment.
