Senior Manufacturing Technician, 1st shift – CA


Veeco designs, manufactures and markets thin-film process equipment that enables high-tech electronic device production and development all over the world.

The Challenge

expand has been a recruitment partner for Veeco for almost 5 years now. Having placed a number of Field Service Engineers into their European Field Service Team, we were asked to support their US Talent Acquisition Team with finding a number of Manufacturing Technicians for their state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in California. This is the second hire. The main challenge was finding the candidate with the right skillset and level of experience who would also be a good cultural fit to the business. In addition, due to the role being site-based, the successful candidate needed to be within a commutable distance to the manufacturing facility.

The Approach

We used our broad market knowledge and extensive network in the area to identify relevant candidates to approach. Due to the urgency of this project, we did not wait to have a shortlist before sharing the profiles of potential candidates with the Client. Instead, we sent the candidate profiles over as soon as they were qualified by us. The offer was extended to one of the candidates following his successful performance during the video call and a site visit which followed shortly afterwards.

The Numbers

We approached over a hundred candidates, three candidates were invited for a video call with the Hiring Manager, one candidate went on a site visit and got offered the job.

The Outcome

The chosen candidate came from a competitor and was very strong technically. He had a successful interview with the Hiring Managers who felt this candidate would be a good fit both in terms of his skillset and also culturally.
